Arizona Long-Term Care System (ALTCS)
What is ALTCS?
ALTCS is Arizona's long-term care program under AHCCCS (Medicaid). ALTCS helps eligible individuals who need a "nursing home level of care" by covering services that go beyond what typical insurance provides. Depending on the situation, ALTCS can authorize and pay for care in addition to normal insurance in a skilled nursing facility, assisted living community, rehabilitation center, residential care home, or even the person's own home. It is a needs-based program that allows individuals to access the additional support and daily care they require.
What Does ALTCS Offer?
ALTCS is based on a managed care program that upon medical and financial approval enables the state to pay for a variety of services that normal insurance may not. In addition to helping with skilled nursing and nursing home costs, ALTCS covers certain in-home services as well such as personal care, therapies, home health, and respite.
For many families, ALTCS provides reassurance by offering a structured, affordable path to long-term care when it becomes necessary.
